Jihyun Cecilia Lee will remain in the ensemble and will make her debuts as, among others, FIORDILIGI in Mozart's <Cosi fan tutte> & ROMILDA in Händel's <Serse> & LARA in the German Premiere of Moritz Eggert's <Die letzte Verschwörung> More at South-Korean soprano Jihyun Cecilia Lee, hailed by the press for her „unearthly beautiful, warm and rich soprano-voice" and for her „intensive and highly credible interpretations“, was in 2020 awarded with the Bavarian Art-Promotion-Award in the category <Performing Arts>, as well as with the "Prize of the Friends" of State Theatre Augsburg, where Jihyun Cecilie Lee is a member of the ensemble, making there highly successful and acclaimed debuts as, among others, MARGUERITE in Gounod's "Faust", CORINNA in Rossini's "Il Viaggio á Reims" or MARZELLINE in Beethoven's "Fidelio" and VIOLETTA VÁLERY in Verdi's "La Traviata"; which she, as welle as Marzelline, also will sing again in the 2023/24 season. Furthermore, the next season sees her debuts as TATYANA in Caikovsky's "Jewgenji Onegin", ANNA TRUELOVE in Stravinsky's "The Rake's Progress" and LÍU in Puccini's "Turandot".
In addition, Mrs Lee gave a Solo-Song-Recital at Villa Wahnfried in Bayreuth, sang GABRIEL & SOPRANO in "Das Ende der Schöpfung" - after Haydn by various composers, HERMIA & SUMMER in Purcell's "The Fairy Queen - a Ballett Opera", the SOPRANO-part in Gustav Mahler's "2nd Symphony in c-minor", and embodied PAMINA in Mozarts “Die Zauberflöte”, NORINA in Donizettis “Don Pasquale”, JITKA in Smetanas “Dalibor”, ECHO in R. Strauß’“ Ariadne auf Naxos, ÄNNCHEN in Webers “Der Freischütz”, HARI in Dai Fujikura's “Solaris”, MARIE in Martin Zells children's opera “Die große Wörterfabrik”, HANNA GLAWARI in Lehárs operetta “Die Lustige Witwe” and SERVILIA in Mozart's „La Clemenza di Tito“ and EURIDICE in Gluck's "Orfeo & Euridice", in an internationally highly praised 3-D-production by André Bücker, which also was featured in the New York Times.
Guest-commitments led her as FIORDILIGI in Mozart's "Cosí fan tutte" to the Kammeroper München and NADINE in his “Der Stein der Weisen” to the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck; DONNA CLARA in Zemlinskys “Der Zwerg” to the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern and CLORINDA in Rossinis “La Cenerentola” to the Teatro Filarmonico di Verona. In addition, she sang numerous concerts with a.o. Brahm's "Ein Deutsches Requiem", Beethoven's "Christus am Ölberge", Fauré's "Requiem", Händel's "Messiah", Haydn's "Die Schöpfung", Mendelssohn's "Paulus", Rossini's "Stabat Mater" or Verdi's "Requiem" in Germany, Italy, France and South-Korea. Jihyun Cecilia Lee began her musical education in an early age at the traverso-flute and the piano She Frist studied at the Hanyang University in Seoul with Prof. Jungwon Park, and subsequently in her Bachelor's-studis at the Coservatory for Musik and Performing Arts in Mannheim with Prof. Rudolf Piernay, and in her Master's-studies with Prof. Snezana Stamankovič, with whom she still works. Masterclasses for opera and art-song with Brigitte Fassbaender, Renato Bruson, Luciana D’Intino, Vincenzo Scalera, Marco Gandini, L‘uba Orgánašová, Ruth Ziezak, Thomas Quasthoff, Ulrich Eisenlohr, Axel Bauni, Peter Nelson, Wolfram Rieger und Helmut Deutsch completed her education.
Young Jihyun Cecilia Lee gave her stage-derbut as memberof the Opera-studio at Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern (Germany), before she joined the Opera-studio at Teatro La Scala di Milano, where she performed among others PAMINA in “La Flauta Magica per bambini”, and appeared in several small roles, such as the MODISTIN in R. Strauss’ “Der Rosenkavalier” under Maestro Zubin Mehta. Next to him, she had the pleasure to work with conductors and stage directors such as Jochen Biganzoli, André Bücker, Lancelot Fuhry, Urs Häberli, Domonkos Héja, Wolfgang Katschner, Wojtek Klemm, Uwe Sandner, Andrea Schwalbach and Nabil Shehata.
Jihyun Cecilia Lee is 1st-Prize-Winner and of the “Special Prize for the best interpretation of an Art-Song" at the Debut International Singing Competition in Weikersheim; 1st-Prize-Winner and winner of the Audience-Award at the Grandi Voci International Singing Competition in Salzburg, as well as 2nd-Prize-Winner at the Paula Salomon-Art-Song-Competition “Das Lied” in Berlin. In addition, she reached the Finals at the International Art-Song-Competition in Stuttgart and the Meistersinger von Nürnberg Wettbewerb at Staatstheater Nürnberg, and the Semifinals at the ARD Music Competition in München. Mrs. Lee was a scholarship-holder of the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Foundation, the Richard Wagner Society Heidelberg, the Soroptimist Club Mannheim and the Heidelberger Frühling.
